Text Box: News Flash: Running seminar 7:00 TONIGHT at Athletic Performance!
Greetings Running Mates,
It was great to see so many of you at our Spring Kickoff Party Friday night. If you weren't able to make it or if you missed the first run, don't worry. It's not too late to get started! If the pacing didn't feel quite right to you, it's ok to shift up or down a group. Finding the right pace may take a bit of fine-tuning. Starting next Saturday we will form more permanent pace groups based on our Magic Mile times. If you're still on the fence about joining, just come give it a try – showing up is the hardest part. Hope to see you this Saturday!
THIS WEEK'S COURSES:
WELCOME Spring Training Group! Meet at Athletic Performance this Saturday, January 10 at 7:00 a.m. for a 3 Mile Run/Walk. Here's a map of the route we will take: MAP.
Fall Training Group will meet at Athletic Performance this Saturday, January 10 at 7:00 a.m. for a 23 Mile Run. Woo-hoo! The plan is to run the first three miles with the Spring Group, meet back at the store, and then head out for 20 more. The course will take us all the way up to the ˝ mile marker near Lexington Reservoir Dam and back again (same route as our 20-miler). We will have a "GSJ treasure chest" at the top of the Camden pedestrian bridge as well as a cheering/aid station at Vasona Park near the blue playground (hosted by Danielle and Felix).
LONG RUN PACING: Just as a reminder, everyone should be taking these long ones at a nice, easy pace. You should be able to talk (joke, gossip, and commiserate) during your run without a lot of huffing and puffing. Forget about speed! The long runs should be done at your "training pace," not your "racing pace." A training pace is at least two minutes per mile slower than you are capable of running that distance. Running slowly bestows the same level of endurance as running fast over the same distance. However, slow runs allow your body to recover quickly and are less likely to result in injury. Please review: LONG RUN.
RUNNING SEMINAR TONIGHT: Please join us at 7:00 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 7) at Athletic Performance for a free seminar presented by certified Posture Alignment Specialist Chris Janke (our favorite Saturday morning warm-up guy). Chris will demonstrate specific techniques to help improve your posture and running form. Chris' presentation is dynamic and interactive; you'll actually feel the exercises working! Light refreshments will be served. For more information: www.fstworkout.com
THURSDAY MORNING RUN GROUP STARTING THIS WEEK: Athletic Performance will be hosting a 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning run group starting this week. The group is open to anyone and is a great way to get one of your mid-week runs in. Pace, distance and sub-groups will be decided depending on who shows up. FYI: Peet's opens at 5:00 a.m. right across the street. ;)
Take care of yourselves and get plenty of rest this week. See you Saturday!
